It is better to understand your contribution to science not as a competition of your nation with others at a (global) stage but as a collaborative contribution to a joint effort to solve the world’s problems
This is such a clear and thorough exploration of the actual impact of these program changes and cuts to scientific funding at the individual human level. And for what purpose? To give tax cuts to billionaires? To own the libs? It’s devastating.
Darby, thank you for speaking out for my son Gabriel. I am saddened and frustrated, and soo mad these days! You and I know how hard Gabriel works. Each day he is hard at work, even whilst on vacation or back home in NM, he is working. He does not give voice to a complaint. Does not sulk in a room somewhere, but continues to move forward. He encourages me to do the same. And I shall. I was closeby when the ‘rug’ was yanked out from under him. He did not despair, but took it as it came. He will succeed somehow, because that is what my son does best. Thank you Darby Saxbe. I hope to meet someday. Thank you..
Thank you so much for commenting, Mary! Your son is indeed very hard-working and incredibly bright -- you must be so proud! I know he will succeed no matter what, but it is still frustrating to experience a setback like this. Hope to meet you someday also!
What unthinking and short-sighted policy! Gabe, do your best to keep going--the world needs your expertise!
This is so unfair Darby, I'm so sorry, and thank you for speaking up.

Very true! I like that reframe.
Frustrating and infuriating!

So infuriating! and bound to hurt not only scientists but ordinary people who would benefit from their research. Thank you for posting.
